Jack F. Witcher Tribute

IN MEMORY OF OUR FOUNDER, JACK F. WITCHER (1942-2022)

Jack F. “Freddie” Witcher was born and raised in Bremen, Georgia, where he faithfully served his community as an attorney, counselor, mentor, and coach.

Jack Witcher graduated valedictorian from Bremen High School in 1960, attended Georgia Tech, and received his law degree from the University of Georgia. He began practicing in 1967 at the law office of Thomas Murphy, legendary Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives, and eventually became a law partner with Speaker Murphy and his son, future Superior Court judge Michael Murphy.

In 1984, Jack Witcher founded The Law Firm of Jack F. Witcher, making it his life’s work to be a true Counselor-at-Law, willing to assist anyone who walked through the door. Generations of West Georgians heard the words “Come see me,” and found their burdens lifted, sometimes with a single visit and a well-placed phone call, other times through litigation. Over the years, Jack F. Witcher earned a reputation among his peers from Bremen to Atlanta for his intellect, his honor, and as a formidable adversary, particularly in the areas of personal injury, workers' compensation, wills and probate, and property litigation.

Nothing made Jack Witcher prouder than the success of his associate attorneys. He helped countless young lawyers grow in the profession, some of whom eventually left to start their own law practice. “Mr. Witcher” also mentored high school students with an interest in law, coaching the Bremen High Mock Trial team for many years.

Outside the legal profession, another of Jack Witcher’s callings was girls’ softball. He coached Rec League, Fall Ball, and Travel Ball; teaching skills, instilling character, and reminding his players that it’s also about having fun. Jack Witcher helped fund travel teams in softball and baseball and sponsored various athletic programs in the Bremen and Haralson County school systems as well as Temple High School. In the 1990s, he built “Witcher Field,” a multi-diamond baseball park, for the entire community to enjoy. Jack Witcher supported the Boy Scouts, the Carrollton Fraternal Order of Police, and other community programs and charity events.

Jack F. Witcher had an indefatigable passion for practicing law, reflected in 55 years of dedication to his clients and constant striving for excellence with every legal challenge set before him. He inspired his associates and staff to seek the highest standards in the work that carried his name. These same standards of excellence are evident still in the law practice that continues to bear his name and the legacy that lives on where it all began almost 40 years ago.
